PLOT:
The Justice League Watchtower has been officially shut down. The Hall of Justice is being kept open purely for the occasional citizens' tour. As far as Black Canary is concerned, if Hal and Ollie want the Justice League title they can have it - but they're going to hold their meetings somewhere else. For all intents and purposes the Justice League of America as it is formally known is caput. It's just too bad the remaining members happen to disagree.

Arranging a meeting in the secret pocket dimension originally created for the big Three, John Stewart calls everyone together to discuss their obligation to the JLA name. None are willing to simply call it quits and shirk the responsibilities of the League - so they decide to continue operations. As a subtle attempt to show to Black Canary that she has a welcome spot on the team, John Stewart declines the opportunity to assume a leadership role. The team instead will be lead as a democratic union of adults (until which time Black Canary should decide to rejoin).

With the team's active status secure, Dr. Light decides to attend to some loose ends by heading to Van Kull prison with Firestorm. When the leader of the Shadow Cabinet (a pre-cog named Dharma) assigned his team the task of restoring Dr. Light's abilities he did so with a purpose in mind. Obviously Dr. Light's abilities would prove useful in retrieving the stolen Dark Matter necessary for powering their "Shadowslide" and helping the team escape the JLA Sattelite. But moreover Dharma foresaw Kimiyo's powers playing an integral role in saving the planet from a future threat. The only question at hand is how Shadow Thief came to tapping into Dark Matter dimension from which he stole from.

Kimiyo and Jason step into Shadow Thief's cell - a room completely illuminated with no shadows - and begin to question him assuming that without shadows, Carl Sands' abilities would be inoperative. But the new abilities Carl Sands displayed recently come from his god Starbreaker. A god who has taught Carl many new things, including how to tap into his inner shadows and draw from them a limitless supply of power! Spewing shadow into the eyes of both Kimiyo and Jason, Sands attempts to kill a Firestorm for the second time in his life by stabbing Jason with a sword of Shadow. Luckily Jason is able to stabilize and notify the League of their emergency. Before the JLA can arrive however, Sands births from his chest the god which granted him these abilities - Starbreaker.

Deprived of the solar energy he requires during his time imprisoned within the shadow dimension, Starbreaker seizes this opportunity to feast upon the immense cosmic power from which Dr. Light draws her abilities. Siphoning off the equivalent of 100 million years from the lifespan of the sun within the Lyra Constellation, Starbreaker re-charges and is able to thwart off the rest of the Justice League as they arrive to stop him. Creating an escape portal through his own Shadow Space, Shadow Thief creates an escape route for the two - but a recovering Kimiyo won't hear of it! As the shadow portal is closing behind them she dives in after! The only problem being is that the woman known for being afraid of the dark just dove into Shadow Thief himself - and what's worse, the Justice League has no clue how to get her back!
