PLOT:
Try as she might, Zatanna can't seem to cast a spell powerful enough to track Dr. Light inside the shadow dimension. The JLA might not be able to find her, but John Stewart thinks he knows someone who can - Shadow Cabinet member Hardware. The only problem is that Hardware isn't a member of the covert ops team (and neither is Icon for that matter). Both men were only helping out their leader Dharma in the interest of the greater good. Luckily however Hardware has been using his advanced technology to monitor Kimiyo's whereabouts ever since the Cabinet helped her re-obtain her powers in order to snatch the Shadowslide technology back from Shadow Thief. Dr. Light has somehow overcome her fear of the dark, facing her fears and racing after the Luciphage Starbreaker on through the other side of the portal where she has come out somewhere in the Himalayas. Now the only question is, what on Earth would be so powerful that it could tempt the sun-devourer away from his usual M.O. of dining on the solar energy of the Earth's sun?

The answer it seems is somehow even less comforting. Using Jason's girlfriend Gehenna's power of teleportation, the JLA arrives at Kimiyo's location and realize that they've teleported smack dab into the middle of the Shadow Cabinet's headquarters the Shadowspire. Whatever is going on here it's big. So big in fact that the Anansi makes itself known once more to it's guardian Vixen. The spider god orders Mari to protect his interests by watching out over Dharma, "Save him. But do not trust him." the trickster warns. In an attempt to help Vixen along the way, Anansi spins to life it's fictional world's version of Bruce Wayne - Paladin, the gun-slinging western sheriff type super hero. Although seeing the image of Bruce Wayne fighting amongst the JLA again proves painful for his childhood friend Zatanna, the League realizes that if this is anything as big as it seems - they'll need all the help they can get and soldier on.

The team continues to wade through a luminescent viscous blue fluid as they make their way throughout the Shadowspire, eventually coming across the downed bodies of the entire Shadow Cabinet! As they round the bend they witness something truly horrific. Kimiyo is in the grips of the villainous Shadow Thief! The blue fluid at their feet is apparently the spilled life-blood of the pre-cog Dharma. It is flowing from his neck out of a wound created by Starbreaker who is now in a battle to the death with Icon! Behind them, two massive globes are beginning to intercept like a multi-versal Venn diagram. "Starbreaker just killed the man who was holding the universe together." Icon shouts as he wrestles with Starbreaker.
