I received Superman Animated 3 today, and it's just marvellous. I've had it for about 3 hours and I've watched the whole of the first disc already.
Great Batman crossovers too! The Superman - Batman movie (available as a single disc or as part of BoxSet volume 2) is one of the greatest stories in the whole BTAS or STAS (does such a phrase exist?) world. It's DEFINITELY Mark Hamill's best performance - he's inspired.
In boxset 3 there's the usual special features, commentaries & a great piece where they sit down the producers and they discuss how the series came to look like it did.
There's quite a bit of Jack Kirby's influence here (and he gets well mentioned in the above mentioned special feature).
Fantastic stuff.

The last group of episodes of Superman: TAS were the best ones. I have never had a chance to read the original Kirby New Gods stories, but those episodes involving Darkseid and Apokolips were some of the best cartoons ever.

I've now watched the lot - totally agreed, Knight Time is a wicked episode. Arguably the best Superman TAS episode of all.
Just watching these episodes again it's made me go back and have another look at the Famous Fleischer episodes (which I've not watched for a couple of years). They're VERY good, but nowhere near as good as this (if it's not just stupid to compare things that have 50 years between them).
On the subject of Fleischer, I wonder if all those years ago, when they were making those cartoons, if they had the slightest inkling that 5 decades later, the tone and look of those stories would help to influence and inspire the GREATEST screen version of the Dark Knight?? Suspect not. Isn't history wonderful.

i loved knight time. it was kinda like a "what if batman had powers"....i just thought it was funny when the batsuit ripped, the superman suit was still on. is there something about superman's suit that i dont know about? it seems like its indestructable or something. even gunshots dont put holes in it.
