Batmobile
Hot Wheels Metal Collection: Mattel, 2005. SKU# G9831
I have to admit that the first time I saw a picture of the new Batmobile I hated it. After seeing it in action in Batman Begins, I?ve changed my mind. While not a classic style Batmobile this one has a quality all it?s own.
Following 1:18 scale ?Keaton? Batmobile released by Hot Wheels a couple years ago comes the latest Batmobile. This one is just as good as the other was. Hot Wheels is known for some quality die casts and this one is no exception.
SPECS:
The Batmobile is 9 ?? long, 5 ?? wide and 2 7/8? high. It?s all black with gold and sliver detail accents on a few body parts. Windshield and roof open to detailed interior.
PROS:
It?s one of the nicest die cast models I?ve ever seen. It is certainly as nice as the other 1:18 Batmobile Hot Wheels released. There is a detailed interior, only the gauges and controls are not painted like they were on the other Batmobile. The whole interior is molded in silver. The windshield is tinted, so are the windows in the nose of the car where Batman goes to do the jumps. The car has details all over the place, including two silver tanks just in front of each of the large rear tires. Even the outside gauges for the tanks are there, although they are not painted.
CONS:
This version does not have side windows. They are open so you can see into the car better and open the car. The opening windshield and roof like the movie version is a nice touch, but since it does not open all the way or the same way as the movie version I wished they had left off this feature. The mechanism used for the windshield and roof hangs just under the roof between the seats. It would have looked better without it.
Opening it is a bit tricky, especially at first. The clear plastic band wrapped around the car in package is not the only restraint that needs to be removed. There is also a clear rubber band not readily seen that holds the windshield back. You can push it in, but it will want to snap back in place. This rubber band can be cut from its hook under the car. Once cut free the Batmobile will open if you have small enough fingers to reach in and pop it up.
I was also just a bit disappointed that the car also does not have steer able wheels that are common on die cast in this size scale. I?m still intrigued by the way the real car turns.
OVERALL:
This Batamobile has outstanding detail at a decent price. This is a must have for just about everyone, even the causal die cast collector. I picked mine up at Sharper Image, which has a premium price for the car at $32.95. It should also show up at mass retail one day as well for just a bit less.

The ?Tumbler? is now available as a 1:18 scale die cast. Hot Wheels repainted their Batman Begins Batmobile and released it in a kick butt display case.
SPECS:
The Batmobile is 9 ?? long, 5 ?? wide and 2 7/8? high. It?s in the Desert Camo the Tumbler was first seen in Batman Begins. Windshield and roof open to detailed interior. With the exception of paint this is the exact same model as the previous Batmobile above.
OVERALL:
It was great to get a Tumbler in its pre Batmobile colors. This is a must have for just about everyone, even the causal die cast collector. I just love the case it comes in and I may never take it out.

I open all of my stuff up...::thebatmanmobile
I have in the past keep action figures and all the other goodies in thier boxes...
Now that I have a much bigger house and have one whole room for the new Batcave...It was like Christmas in September...
Me and the wife opened up all of the action figures and had a hell of a good time ...::yellowrazz::
Open them up...
Also I did notice when I opened up Mr. Freeze from the Batman Animated Series, his paint was still sticky and his back pack was real squishy to the touch...12 years in its package could have caused this???::comicmrfreeze::

I actually still have the basic BTAS Mr. Freeze carded and have been wanting to open him eventually. I've bought older figures like that before and detected no age-related problems when opening them.

I finally found one of these at my local HobbyTown USA a few weeks ago. It's definitely as cool as you described, though that won't stop me from chopping it up some ::yellowsmile:: |
