Before I start, I HAVE NO IDEA where to put this but as it IS custom, I'll try here.
I happen to have large a clasp pin/badge/button of the 1960s Batman logo (yellow oval with the word Batman-red- over a bat sillouette-black- and a Batman head-blue, black, and "flesh" . It is JUST the right size for a bonnet badge.
SO, I am going to make a Balmoral just for this pin. A Balmoral is the common Scottish beret-esque flat cap,
As in:
http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/bonnets.htm
or
http://www.glengarryhats.com/balmoralhats.php?PHPSESSID=8m03mrrrpj7o78ls09t4hedrr4
I would like opinions as to JUST which color combo would be the most "appropriate." All are "historically" correct for Batman at various periods, as you ALL know.
-All Black (hat, torrie, everything)
-Black body, red torrie
--red trim and tails
--black trim and tails
-Black body and torrie, gray trim
-Navy body, black torrie, trim and tails
-Royal blue body, black torrie, trim and tails
-Royal body, yellow torrie, black trim and tails
-other ideas/combos?
The main colors I am open to are black, gray, royal blue, and yellow
-I could, but am NOT using purple, though it could be EASILY argued.
I think THIS crowd will have GREAT ideas and opinions!
In advance, THANKS!!!

I'd probably say that for a '60s style pin, go with the blue and/or gray. I'd stay away from yellow, since the logo itself has yellow in it. Black would be more fitting for a more modern design.
Sounds like a cool project, be sure to keep us posted on how it comes along! |

I might do a "modern" one too, modifying an enameled metal key fob as the badge.
That one WILL be black.
A third one is all black with a skunk tail (the byproduct of another project), but that is a WHOLE other story . . .

I suppose I'd have to see the badge itself to get a better idea of what colors would work best. Sounds like a neat project though. We usually don't get too many people posting about crafts other than custom figures and models.

The pin/badge/.button is basically this logo on a yellow oval:

The button is actually from 1982 (just noticed copyright script on bottom-> I've NEVER seen THAT before!)

Then that's not actually the '60s logo, as you referred to it in your first post; that was first used in the '70s and throughout the '80s. I'd consider that particular logo to have a slightly more serious and dark mood compared with the '60s. So in that case, I would probably agree with Spencer and say gray or blue would work well for the bonnet as a whole. If you chose grey, blue and red would probably work well for the various trimmings.
I think we have your particular pinback in BYTB's Pinback Button archives. A lot of them were made in 1982 actually. CLICK HERE to see for yourself.

Yep, here:

I'm sorry for the mislead. It was packed away and I retreived it and posted quickly. I am so used to the "modern"/"standard" yellow and black one that I didn't think through it in the original post (my bad).
I still might do with solid navy actually for this one.
