My current project is the 1952 Batmobile, as it appeared in Batman #73. I believe it was Caleson who had asked about how I did the dashboard in PL's car, so here is a breakdown of how it went together:
First, a brown basecoat and wood graining...
...then the gauge faces were drilled out...
...Bare Metal Foil and paint were used for detailing...
...and the gauges were installed from the backside.
Here are a couple of shots of the finished interior. I wanted to give this one a little more "plush" interior than the '50 Batmobile, so I added wood panelling, plenty of chrome trim, full carpeting, and a stainless steel work table. The steering wheel was taken from a '53 Corvette kit, and the dash was detailed with a scratchbuilt telephone and telehone/radio wires.

What did you use for the chrome trim, full carpeting, and a stainless steel work table?

All of the chrome was done with Bare Metal Foil, including the trim rings around the stool & shift boot. The table in the back was filled to get rid of the mount holes, the lip was added with .010" flat stock, then the whole thing was finished with aluminum repair tape (great stuff for simulating staniless, though as you can see it does scratch if you push too hard). The carpeting was done with a sheet of fake felt I picked up in Wal-Mart's craft section. It works a lot easier than sprinkle-on flocking, and I think it's less than a buck for a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet. |

The BMF I get directly from the company at http://www.bare-metal.com. The aluminum tape is available in the home repair section of Wal-Mart. |

Is that a sticker or a decal buddy for the emblem? And also could you tell us how you made the emblem. Inkjet , laser etc.
Again another great looking ride buddy. Cant wait to see the rest of the pics!

Thanks! It's a laser print of an emblem I made in Illustrator (same thing I did for the gauges, actually). I printed it onto regular copy paper, bt the laser printer makes a nice semi-gloss finish that looks really nice.
To be honest, the blue rims were an afterthought. I wanted to put hub caps on it, but none of the caps I had were big enough to cover all of the JL wheels. Then I realized that a lot of the cars in the '50s had body-colored rims showing between the tire & the hubcap, so I went with that look here. |
