sweet, I'll have to look into it. I read a bit about it in a Batman history book I found a while back but I never checked it out.
"I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me"

It's called Batman: The Complete History and it's written by Les Daniels

As far as I'm concerned, you can't have the Dark Knight without the Dark. He just doesn't have to act like a total lunatic and murder police officers is all.
Crimson Mist looks really cool and fits Kelly Jones' art perfectly. Plus, it's just an Elseworld, so it can't really go overboard by misrepresenting the character. I hope to read it soon.
I'm sorry to hear you never knew about The Complete History, Panzer. It is a great book that takes you through Batman's history all the way 'till 1999. There's a lot of awsome Batman history-related books and visual guides you outta check out. I've got the Books archives pretty much finished which should premiere soon. S'got everything ya need.

It should be noted that Crimson Mist is the final part of a trilogy, which begins with Red Rain-- far and away the best of the three, in my opinion-- and Bloodxstorm. Crimson Mist is pretty easy to enjoy on its own, but the 3 books together really knock your socks off.
This probably is the absolute darkest Batman has ever been. Within the context of this story, however, it's a natural evolution of the character. I really love the designs for the Riddler and the Scarecrow used in this book. I really hope they make figures of them later on in DC Direct's Elseworlds line.
Those of you who enjoy this story should check out Haunted Gotham, a 4-issue prestige format series by the same creative team. It came out about 5 years ago, and isn't too hard to find. I don't think it's been collected, though.

I never did read the Batman/Dracula trilogy. I have heard good things though. Haunted Gotham was pretty good though.
If you like Kelley Jones's art you might want to pick some issues of Batman between #515 and 552. Most of the stories were two issues long at most and some pretty good things in there.

Nope, I gotta go with DF on this one...The Red Rain/Bloodstorm/Crimson Mist is probably Batman's darkest series. The Elseworld's didn't have to pretend to be in-continuity, so they could explore more concepts. |
