I stopped doing this for a while, but I have kinda missed getting a little commentary on the stuff that is coming out. So you guys get to put up with it again. Also this months releases are the last issues before the One Year Jump, so it is nice to take a little stock of what is going on.
Aquaman #39
The last issue of the series... sort of. After this the title gets a "Sword of Atlantis" suffix. The change is supposed to be part of OYL, and I don't think that our Aquaman will be around. Could be interesting. Oh yeah, in this issue Aquaman fights Black Manta and talks to fish, or something.
Batman and the Monster Men #4 of 6
This is supposed to be the best Batman comic out there now. It looks like a really great series, but due to budget problems I haven't been able to pick up miniseries. If you want to avoid being bogged down with continuity pick this up for a good read. I have read the stories that Wagner is modernizing, so he has some great source material to work with.
Blood of the Demon #12
I don't read this one, but then again according to recent sales reports neither do a lot of people. Too bad, since Byrne used to be really popular. Anyway, moving on.
Detective Comics #816
The last part of a filler story before the one year jump, but this has been a pretty good one. Mr. Zsasz tried to kill Alfred, but failed. Too bad that Zsasz didn't find that out until after making one of his characteristic scars. Now Batman must play double duty in keeping Alfred alive and capturing Zsasz.
Gotham Central #40
The last issue of what has been one of the best new series of this decade. After what happened to Crispus Allen in Infinite Crisis #4, and Rene Montoya's anger toward Allen's death, I really would not want to be Jim Corrigan now. This series promises to end with a bang (maybe literally).
Green Lantern #8
Mongul is back with the weapon the he used against Superman in one of the best comic stories ever told ("For the Man Who Hsa Everything", whose name escapes me now (good trivia question). This time Mongul has his sites set on Green Lantern and Green Arrow. GL has a big mad on for Mongul since the destruction of Coast City, so this should be a great fight.
JSA Classified #8
A mysterious figure uses the Spear of Destiny to make Flash (Jay Garrick) and Wildcat fight. That sounds like a really cool fight. Remember that Wldcat trained Bruce Wayne and Dinah Lance. The Flash may have his work cut out for him.
Legion of Superheroes #14
My that is a little woman. I don't really know what is going on in this comic.
Outsiders #33
Arsenal leads a strike team to the heart of the Society's operation to stop them from targeting the Marvel Family. Unfortunately the Outsiders are at a disadvantage since Donna Troy took half the team into space to stop the rift.
Rann/Thanagar War Infinite Crisis Special
Speaking of the big space thing, this special seems like it will make some big waves. If the Day of Vengeance Special was any indication, this will have some more escalation in the Crisis, especially since we now know who is behind the cosmic storm.
That pretty much wraps it up. What all are you guys buying? This is a really light week for me with only: Detective, Gotham Central, and the Rann/Thanagar Special. I skipped last week though so I have my reading cut out for me. Anyway, Happy Groundhog Day Eve.
