Note: If you read Countdown, read this issue first. Two Face makes an appearance in both issues, but this has an earlier part of his story.

I am usually a little averse to picking up miniseries, but this is supposed to tie into Countdown, and the description sounded pretty good. They seemed to pack several things into this issue.

There is a new mob boss working to consolidate the gangs of Gotham like Black Mask did after War Games. His name escapes me, but he looks like a Kingpin rip-off. We'll have to see if they doa good job with him or not. I want to know what happened to the Great White Shark from the Face the Face story. I thought he was controlling the mob from inside Arkham.

The main plot involves Checkmate rounding up as many supervillains as they can. The last time that Checkmate went rogue, Superman nearly killed Batman. I haven't been picking up the Checkmate comic, but this should be an interesting story.

Naturally there is a response from the supervillain community in an Underground Railroad type of system to help villains escape. The only person that they've revealed involved is the Penguin. I would guess that future issues will show more people involved.

All in all a pretty good issue. If you're on the fence, go ahead and pick it up.

Not really too much happening in this series yet, except that someone is spying on Robin. The significance is that this someone is a woman wearing a Spoiler costume. We may finally learn why there is no memorial to Stephanie Brown in the Batcave, but I really hope we get a justifiable reason as to why Batman knew but didn't tell anyone. There is a lot of potential in this story, and I really hope that they don't mess it up.

Oh yeah, Zasz is back too. He has been hired to kill Matches Malone who is in Blackgate prison. There should be a cool fight next issue.

I've picked up both issues so far, and haven't been disappointed. I thought it was a little odd that Robin was unaware of what was going on with Batman (you'd think Bats would learn to tell his team before he gets incarcerated by now), but any time Matches Malone shows up is good with me.
