"Batman Reborn" begins here! With the reunited team of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, WE3, New X-Men), this first issue kicks off a 3-part story arc that can't be missed! The new Dynamic Duo hit the streets with a bang in their new flying Batmobile as they face off against an assemblage of villains called the Circus of Strange. They also tackle their first mission investigating a child who’s been abducted by the mysterious Domino Killer. But will everything go smoothly? And who exactly are the new Batman and Robin? The newest era of The Dark Knight begins here!

Well.. it wasn't what I was expecting... It wasn't that great. Okay, I was expecting that. It's Grant Morrison, I really wish they'd get him off the Bat books, the guy single handily destroyed the Bat verse.. anyway,
I was hoping that the story would be better. Dick, Damian and Alfred move out of Wayne Manor.. they heave a flying Batmobile and a few pages of a new bad guy.. that's it. Maybe the next issue will be better...

I enjoyed this comic! I thought it was a fun time. I'm more worried about Judd Winnick over in the main book. Now HE'S a guy with the propensity for ruining the Bat-verse.
Anybody else remember Scare-Beast? Or the Superboy Prime punch?? Ugh.

I've noticed that peeps who prefer Grant's earlier Batman work don't really like his latest material, and the same in reverse for the opposite crowd, which I'm a part of. I thought A Serious House on a Serious Earth was waaayy overrated, and I never enjoyed Gothic, yet Final Crisis and his run on Batman all make it into my top ten stories.

I havn't read it yet but I will probally not as much as I want to. I ussually walk to the comic shop after school since it's close. I'll wait for the graphic novel. By the way, I don't mean to get off of topic, but does anyone know when Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder will come out to a graphic novel?

I was very indifferent about this issue. I mean, it was okay. A little disappointed by the new Batmobile, it looks more like a ladybug to me. :\
I do love Damian though. I'm excited to see more of him, but...I just don't like Grant Morrison. I'm more interested in Judd Winick's Batman title, just because at least the villains in that are ones we know and care about, like Two-Face and Penguin. This new Pyg guy seems kinda lame.
I wonder when the new Black Mask is coming back? And in what series? |

If by that you mean All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder (and no, I ain't correcting you, I just wanna clarify), then it's already out. Volume 1, at least.
Only one issue from Volume 2 has been released thus far, as both Frank Miller and Jim Lee have been extremely busy over the past couple of years. We have been assured that it will be completed though, and naive as I am, I believe that.
I think you can get Volume 1 in both soft and hard cover now, although I'm not sure. You should check when you go to the comic book shop. And seriously, you should start picking up Batman & Robin. Morrison's run only lasts for 12 issues, so you won't be cutting into your budget too much, and if you wait so long to pick up the TPB, some of the most important parts of the story may have been spoiled for you by then...

Yeah, I've gotta admit, I loved the issue and all but this new Batmobile does nothing for me. I dig that it flies - but I just don't like the design. But I'm not a fan of Quitely's art anyway. Luckily Philip Tan is coming on board for issue 4 so it'll mix things up a bit.

Funny you should ask that. I just posted a news article from IGN which gives us a glimpse of where the characters are going to be showing up...

Thanks a lot, that clears some stuff up!
Black Mask shows up in Batman. Go figure. I'm starting to look forward to Batman more and more, and Batman and Robin less and less. A guy who dresses like a pig? Someone else dressing like the Red Hood? I really don't care. I want to see Arkham's explosion dealt with. And who the new Black Mask is.
Joker's under "At Large"...does that mean he won't be appearing in anything for a long time? |

Well for that you may want to look more towards the Outsiders. Their new arc "The Hunting" begins with Outsiders #21 and it focuses on The Outsiders trying to re-capture Arkham escapees (namely Mr. Freeze, Clayface and Killer Croc). That issue will hit stands in August. Plus it's being handled by a much more adept writer (Pete Tomasi).
Joker is at large for the time being, but Grant Morrison has plans for bringing him back and explaining his absence at the tail end of the first year of B&R (so probably around issues 10-12).
PS - while we're on the topic of Winnick's Batman. I'm going to have to side with the theory that Black Mask is former Commissioner Atkins.

It didn't do much for me, either - I like the flying Batmobile in Bataman Beyond, and I was OK with it in TDKSA and ASBARTBW because those are Frank Miller so outrageous is the norm. But in a current, regular Batman title? The dialog didn't help, either: altogether it sounded a little strained to me, like they were saying "Look, it flies! This makes it cool! Seriously, check it out!".

It seems like every time I pick up a Bat book it has his name on it these days.
Anyways, it looks kinda interesting...but yeah, I'm not a Morrison fan though.

I think joker beong at large just means that at this point in time he isn't imprisoned in arkham but that the bat family does not know his current locstion which means there's a possibility he's not in gotham. By the way do you guys suggest I pick this issue up, is it worth reading is what I'm trying to ask.

It's a 1st Issue and has gone into a 2nd printing, I would get it.. if nothing more than to say you have Batman & Robin #1, though nowadays that's not as big as it was years ago..

I need to preface this by saying that I hate Quitely's art. There is nothing dynamic about it, and everyone just looks fat and ugly.
Story wise, this was just another start up arc, not really any different structurally than Hush, part 1. We'll have to see if there is some kind of payoff, but so far there is nothing to get too excited about.
Which brings me to discuss the reviews I've read on some of the major boards. They praise this issue because it doesn't have the baggage that could have come along with Battle for the Cowl, and rave about how the action just jumps right in. So a strength in Morrison's story is that he doesn't acknowledge the mess that he left things in a few months ago? He leaves someone else to clean up the mess.
I have read Batman comics monthly almost without fail for 16 years. To me, it is not the big events or the accessible stories that draw me in. It is the monthly saga. Comics to me are pretty much my soap opera. Serialized story telling about characters that I care about brings me into the comic shop each week, not an artsy writer who tries to delude people into finding meaning in panels that is not there.
Sorry for the rant. It just bothers me when I read so many positive reviews that are the result of a creative team's presence and not the merit of the story.
