Welcome to BYTB tjalana.
I think the price you've quoted (£1000) is high, but I gotta be honest I really don't know now. In the UK in the past, for a mint one at comic fairs and conventions, you'd have paid £200/£300 (ish) pounds. I've watched them on Ebay and although they do really well, I don't think they've gone up that much. Flabat or Spencer would know more - I'm sure they'll chip in.
Out of interest, what's the toyshop?? I live in London, and go to toyshops far and wide for stuff - but I havent seen an original Corgi in one (ever, to my knowledge!). The only place I know in London that's got one is the East End's Childhood Museum.
Welcome to BYTB tjalana. Good question. I don't know all of it, but I'll get you started in the right direction.
For values of a Corgi Batmobile #267 I would check around and see if there is any die cast books (like, Action Figure and Toy Review is for action figures) that list prices. Then of course there is eBay. Put a few of them on your watch list and see what they sell for. You can always Google CORGI BATMOBILE 267 VALUES or something to see what comes up.
A good one will go for at least $100.00 (U.S) but could go a little more. One mint in an original box could go for several hundred or more, maybe over a thousand.
There are other factors as well. Red Bat/Gold Hubs, Red Bat/Silver Hub and no Bat/Silver Hub are just 3 of the wheel types that are on these cars. The canopies are different shades of blue depending upon the year the car was built or if it was restored. I’m not sure if clear was ever an original color for them or not (it might have been). Some have tow hooks on the back, while others don’t. Some came in sets with the Batboat from the TV show too. There are a lot of different combinations.
As far as spotting a restored car it should be easy enough. The original is RIVITED together. Six rivets (2 front, 2 middle, 2 rear) hold the car together. A restored car probably had these rivets drilled out and replaced by SCREWS. To replace the canopies, arch, antenna and other parts you have to pull the car apart. There is a How-To and Parts Order Form online someplace. I bought replacement parts from them.
Flabat pretty much nailed it, though I would recommend eBay as a better price barometer than a printed toy guide. The market is so volatile, there's no waay that a printed book/magazine can keep up with it. eBay gives you essentially a real-time status of fair market value.
One other option you may want to consider is to buy a less-than-perfect car and restore it yourself. There are guides and replacement parts available online, so you can make nearly any Corgi look like new again.
hi,thanks for the replys,i will keep with the e bay for a guide then,i have a few books on values but like you say it changes all the time,i also have two loose played with batmobiles but would'nt have the time to restore one, would love to give it a go though,i did read aswell that the restored ones have droplets put into where the rivets were, they freeze and dry out and look just like the original rivets.real-dark-knight,its a toy show im going to, barry potters fair at sanddoown park. last time i went was about 8 years ago.they had everything there, all of my old toys ,i could have spent hundreds in there.then got dragged out by my wife.FLABAT,i wonder if you could help me.i will be in florida this sept,i have searched everywhere for a list of diecast stores,i could'nt find one,do you know of any.
