Look at this:

The "cape" is ripped from KnightsEnd Batman.

You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.

Without a doubt, although I'm not sure I'd call it "copying". I'm fine with them retuning classic old styles, but that's way too similar. And too bad he has that funky orange-red costume.
Nice custom job on the Azrael, whoever did it.

As I recall one of the first Azrael Batman figures from the Legend line was Red/Orange, so maybe they are paying homage to past Batman figures a bit.

Yep, that photo's of a repaint of him - Knightquest Batman. First figure I bought from that line. I thought the orange, black and gold looked awsome, but the colors don't work on this The Batman one at all really. Maybe I'll still get him though, simply because...

I never did understand why it was red and orange. The only reason I could ever come with was that they got the artwork from the last couple of parts of KnightsEnd where Az-Bats had been through some kind of fire and his suit had turned red and black to parallel the Azrael suit. Then they released the KnightsEnd Batman:

Notice the KnightsEnd Batman is wearing the suit from the early parts of Knightquest, and the Knightquest Batman is wearing the suit from the end of KnightsEnd.

Yeah, I thought that was strange too. And the Knightsend figure with the earlier costume design was in the second Series (along with accurately repainted Ultra Armor Batman), while Knightquest was in the first. Oh well, I finally got Knightsend and Ultra Armor off eBay about a year ago, so I'm satisfied either way.
