Yes, I understood what you meant. You?re right Nolan?s Batman is just a rookie himself, but he?ll get better in quantum leaps as the next two films progress.

The Killing Joke is a good start, but what if it was combined with The Laughing Fish to make a new story? Those are two of my favorite Joker stories and elements of each could work well together.

DarkKnight666, he is still facing human villians, but you seem to forget that Gotham is the most crime ridden city in America; and a lot of illegal trades are made off shore so that there is less chance of the Police botching things up. The truth is that a lot of Cities have Drug trades and illigal Weapons trades all over the place, so imagin how big those industrys are in Gotham.

So technically big guys named Butch with Switch-blades, I Love Mom tattoos, and shaven heads are more of a reason to have a boat than Mr. Freeze or Two-face.

Just imagin Batman without a boat; He spends months trying to find the location of a illigal weapons deal, only to find that it's on a fishing boat, "Oh, Crap! Look like I'll have to leave this one to the cops."

As reported on Coming Soon.net here at:

it has been announced that The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, will be released on July 18th, 2008. This will be a first for the WB Batman movies as since 1989, all Batman films were released on the month of June.
Just a note: Unless we get something major like photos, we might as well post news in here like Beyond wanted. Besides, what's really to discuss about the specific release date anyway?

Just for the record, my comment about the Batboat was somewhat of a whimsical statement and didn't have much thought, but I'm glad to see some discussion come out of it anyway. I don't see any reason why Batman having a boat would be bad. I could see it looking something like the ones in Escape from L.A. and Street Fighter... the way I remember them looking anyway.

As far as the Bat-this and Bat-that, I like the idea of Batman simply using gadgets without having to name them. I never said anything about Batman actually calling it the Batboat; he didn't really mention the Batmobile by name. Maybe he could give Alfred a smirk and mention the new "Bat-bombs" he's trying or what have you but not use the term on a regular basis.

According to ComingSoon.net, Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled a July 18, 2008 release date for the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight. Currently, there are no other movies scheduled for that month.

That same summer, Iron Man opens on May 2 and The Incredible Hulk on June 27.

Is it silly to anyone else to announce a release date over a year and a half early? If I remember right they changed the Begins release date a couple of months before the movie was released. It was only a couple of days, but it was a change. I guess it is just to intimidate or challenge the competition. We'll see how many other movies get announced to release that weekend.

courtesy of BOF http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html

OK, y'all remember that rumor that got loose back in 2005 that several rock bands, Metallica for example, had songs on a BATMAN BEGINS soundtrack? Of course, that was total BS, but BOF'er "Jeff in Seattle" tells us that the band Saliva mentioned on radio station KISW 99.9 FM on a December 1st appearance that they were going to pitch some songs "...for the new BATMAN movie." The station puts their interviews up on their website, but had yet to post Saliva's as of this writing. Take that for what you will...

Acording to BOF, it looks like they are going to use some sort of stretch fabric somewhere on Batman's costume. Dear God I hope they don't go for spandex.

BOF has some info on the Batman's and Joker's threads.

Acording to insiders, Batman's new suit will be more "Athletic" and "Fabricky", while still carrying an element of sculpted armour.

As for Joker's suit, according to a BOF insider, "[Since The Joker is] much more dark, sinister, and threatening [in TDK], his costume is very much going to reflect that." He added, "It's not going to be a suit that is tailored for him, but more something he acquired. I mean, what tailor would actually make a suit for The Joker?"

Looking cool so far, keep at it Nolan.

According to AICN, actor Alan Dale is up for an unspecified role in THE DARK KNIGHT. Mr. Dale (who is nearing 60) is best known for his TV roles on 24, THE OC, and THE WEST WING Thanks to "Shannon T." for the link...

http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html

thoughts?

I have to look at his credentials before I make a decision, that and it would be nice to see who he may be playing IF he is in fact in TDK

According to Sir Michael Caine, The Dark Knight is schedualed to shoot in Hong Kong, London, L.A., and Baltimore.

Baltimore? I've been they're a couple of times and thought, "This neighborhood would work in Gotham." But I never thought they'de shoot there.

And it's cool, because a lot of BYTBers are in the north-east; so Batman is in our back yard! big grin

Baltimore wouldn't really work for the Narrows, which was represented as sort of a hastily built slum that really doesn't look like anything still on this Earth. But Baltimore would work for a more conventional area, kinda like Crime Alley, somewhere that was once a decent place to live; but is now filled with crime an poverty.

hmmm possible candidates for dent?

from http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html

OK, I?m going to let loose with a bit of the Dent scuttlebutt I?ve been hearing. I?ve done some checking -- asked some friends and colleagues to check as well -- so here goes. I?ve heard three names -- let?s say ?more than once? -- and here they are: Eion Bailey, Edward Norton, and Jamie Foxx.

Bailey?s name came up last fall from a couple of people and then again this past week. With Bailey, you could have a ?Cillian Murphy? situation. Bailey, like Murphy, tested for the part of Batman/Bruce Wayne in BATMAN BEGINS which went to Christian Bale. IF Bailey is up for Dent, perhaps Nolan liked what he saw in the actor back in ?04 and brought him in for a Dent look-see.

As far as Norton is concerned, a friend and colleague of mine checked into this rumor and was told by his reps that he?s not in the mix, not been offered anything, etc. -- a total denial by his peeps.

Alright, Jamie Foxx. Not a ?conventional? choice for Dent per se, but he is an Oscar winner (for RAY) and a pretty big "name." This would meet the ?aiming high? talk that?s been going around, IMO.

So what's my take on this? Of these three, I think that Eion Bailey makes the most sense -- mainly due to the fact that he was a finalist for Batman/Bruce Wayne in BEGINS. But who the hell knows? Well, Nolan does, but he ain't talking.

Looks like we were all confused by Michael Caine's interview, because he was actually refering to Baltimore, Ireland, and not Baltimore, MD.

Oh well, looks like we still wont have Batman in the Northe East.

In fairness, when you think of Baltimore - you don't really think of the one in Ireland (because until you said that, I'd never even heard of it!)
