Wow, I didn't know Bret Hart had a stroke. How long ago was this?

It was June 2002 I believe. While riding his bike, he hit a pot hole causing him to wipe out and land on his head. He's said how it's been a long recovery, and the stroke's actually caused him to be a little more emotional and imbalanced at times. He's limited to certain exercises that don?t strain him too much and can?t even allow him to break a sweat (which, as you could imagine, would suck for a former pro wrestler that's use to frequently working out).

While visiting his website, I just came across some incredible news. Bret?s not only part of the WWE Hall of Fame?s Class of 2006. Along with five other wrestlers, Bret Hart is being inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame this year on July 15th. The best part? It?s being held in Newton, Iowa! That should be about a three-hour drive from here. I'm discussing the idea of going with my brother. Not only does Bret live way up in Calgary, he barely ever makes appearances around this area. I can't pass it up.

CLICK HERE for the whole gist of the event. It also includes a Friday night card of '60s styled wrestling matches. Smile

That really sucks for Bret. I never heard about that before. That's cool about that show, though. You should definitely go. I've missed the WWE Raw every time it's come to town here, and I've regretted it. You definitely shouldn't let this pass by. (I know it's not the same thing, but it's still a big-deal wrestling show, so it's comparable Smile ).

wow been a while since i checked into this thread. but seeing as tonight is the big wwe return to true network television i tholught id give a heads up to anyone who might have the time to check it out.

"saturday night's main event" was the big show before raw and even smckdown. back in the day wwe was only on for about an hour on saturday and another on sunday in the early afternoons. then once in a while theyd run a prime time show called SNME and feature some of their top talent in big deal angles. and usualy the timing would be just as it is now, right before wrestlemania or some other big ppv to get viewers hooked into ordering it.

well heres the card for tonight show: http://www.wwe.co...ows/snme/

if anybody has the chance i suggest checking it out as its the last big stop on the road to wrestlemania. sat at 8pm on nbc

meanwhile, sorry i didnt answer ur question from a while abck DF, but actually no big daddy cool wasnt the inspiration for my name. lol theres really no story behind it, i thought the term big daddy was goofy and ive just added the gotham or in another forum's case grayskull, cuz i felt it fit well. i never really like diesel very much aside when he first showed up and was a big deal to everyone.

as for the hall of fame this year, its turning out to be quite a show, which is not exactly what one can say about WM22. hoenstly the card for last years big event seemed alot better than this year's offering. heres hoping that what doesnt look so hot on paper will end up looking quite a bit better on screen.

Thanks for rejuvenating the BBWT, BigDaddy. Smile

I find it strange that WWE is back on primetime, network TV at this point. The company surely isn't at the peak it was in the late '90s. Either way, I'm looking forward to watching. The Main Event Tag Team should be very interesting. Maybe it'll give Triple H a chance to actually look like a good wrestler and not a complete coward.

I've seen photos of this "Boogey Man", but I have no idea what his character or wrestling style are like. But I've really enjoyed Booker T ever since his TV Title days in WCW, so I'll be happy to see him in action again. And what's with this Beer Drinking Contest? C'mon...

I agree; the Wrestlemania card doesn't look real great. The Triple Threat is the most interesting match. I could see an interference of some sort between HBK & McMahon (Remember Hogan Vs. McMahon at WMXIX?).

Money in the Bank should be cool, but isn't Flair participating in that? Gimme a break. I'm happy to see Fit Finlay in the WWE though and getting a spot in the match. I remember when he started getting put over after beating Eddie Guererro via Count Out. Just wish I could watch my former WCW favorites on Smackdown!.

And does anyone honestly think "Sexual Chocolate" can tarnish the Deadman's winning streak? :rol:

Oh yeah, Raw is having a "Wrestlemania Revenge" event in Cedar Rapids, IA (about an hour away) on April 9th. I know the local radio station was giving away tickets, so we'll see...

Its? been a few years since I watched the former WWF on TV. I watched Saturday Night?s Main Event tonight and I wondered what happened.

When I used to watch we had George ?The Animal? Steele, Paul ?Mr. Wonderful? Orndorf, ?Rowdy? Roddy Piper, ?The Macho Man? Randy Savage, Brutus ?The Barber? Beefcake and of course Hulk Hogan. All of them characters in their own right.

This latest group just does not seem to have the talent and showmanship of wrestlers of the past. Except for maybe The Undertaker they are a little on the boring or weird side compared to the wrestlers of old.

The names change but the moves seem to stay the same it was still fun to watch, just not as much fun as I recall.

Hahah. My mom used to watch Saturday Night in the '80s. I see what you're saying about the changes though. Seems inevitable after so long. The Innovators like Billy Graham and Hulk Hogan made wrestling very fresh in the colorful '80s and again in the rebellious, late '90s by guys like Steve Austin and The Rock. But there's almost a bit of a dry spell as of late. What's really left to do with the spectacle?

Personally, I have a hard time not changing the channel during most of the backstage story antics. I mainly watch for the in-ring performances which usually deserve some credit. I never seem to get tired of good ol' wrestling as long as it isn't the guys who have the exact same match every night. Wrestlers like Chris Beniot, Kurt Angle, and Rob Van Dam show a lot of talent. And as silly as it may sound, I consider wrestling a sort of artform. It's just not in its Rembrandt days as of late.

I hear ya about the "storyline" segments. I always skip past those(thank GOD for Tivo!!). I haven't seen the lineup for Wrestlemania, but I'll probably wind up watching it. My sister always gets the big PPVs, and usually tapes 'em so I can watch when I have a chance. Half the time I never get around to watching it, though. I still haven't watched the Royal Rumble yet. I recorded SNME yesterday, but haven't watched it yet.

You should all check this out, by the way: http://www.thegiantkamala.com/website/ Hilarious.

So he was one of the wrestlers that got beaten by the camoflage Hulkamaniacs at Fall Brawl, eh?. Heheh. ToyFare showed a photo of his WWE Classic Superstars action figure that's coming out in a few months, otherwise I don't know much about him.

Speaking of wrestling sites... http://www.bigvanvader.com/news.htm

I liked reading the "Fights" section. Smile If only it wasn't so terribly written.

Looks like all the stores around here stopped selling WWE Classic Superstars. es me off. Series 10 looks pretty cool, especially Curt Hennig with his incredible likeness. Gotta get him for my Bret. :shy:

Maybe they need ?Managers? again. Years ago I recall that every wrestler had a manager at ringside. Where are the likes of Jimmy ?Mouth of the South? Hart, Bobby ?The Brain? Heenan, and of course Ms Elizabeth. They were as much a part of the show as the wrestlers were. I didn?t see anybody like them on SNME this past week.

That's been something I miss, too. The managers used to be a HUGE part of the whole thing, many of them as popular as the mainlining wrestlers themselves. I used to hate Heenan and Hart with a passion when I was a kid, which means they were doing their jobs. Smile Now, I can watch those same matches and appreciate how great those guys were at their jobs. They were great entertainers. Another guy I used to hate is the Honky Tonk Man. I love him now, because I can see how good that guy really was. Too bad he didn't have a better wrestling persona, 'cause the guy was damn good otherwise.

I can't wait to get the Greatest Managers DVD when it comes out this year. Smile I've been looking forward to it since it was first announced.

I agree about the managers. Jimmy Hart's an all-time great.

During the nWo era of WCW, a guy called Vincent would walk out with nWo members but very rarely had his own matches. He was so pathetic and always got wupped by Sting and the lot. I found out he was also Ted DiBiase's manager by the name "Virgil". He looked incredibly dorky with that sleevless tux and purple bow tie. Reading up on him, I found out he actually had some high success in his early career with AWA. Kinda funny; he always seemed so harmless and lovable to me. :shy: I sometimes wonder where guys like that are now.

Yeah, I saw it. Speaking of last night's Raw, I believe that was the very first time I've seen a woman, or "Diva" bleed. Mickey got in a scuttle with Trish Stratus and got a bloody nose. It was running onto her teeth and everything. Kind of a disturbing image, but I s'pose it went with her psychotic persona. I always assumed that they never wanted women to bleed because it wouldn't be in good taste. They're supposed to big big-boobied and beautiful. I also notice that you're never able to make women wrestlers bleed on the video games.

Heh, I remember Virgil. One of my friends was on a plane with him once, sitting in the row behind him. He says Virg was trying to pick up the woman he was sitting next to. Smile

That's awsome. Sounds like something he'd do. And do terribly. ::yellowroll::

No, batboy, I haven't seen it. But my friend's poppa gets Playboy, so I will in due time. He gave me all the old ones with Sable and Torrie, 'cause they're laying all over his house. ::yellowrazz::
