yeah tna is gaining momentum, most ppl say they just need some more big names for credibility. but really, every big name was once a no-name, so i think if they just progress with the quality level theyre at now in about a year or so we can expect another big wrestling promotion rivalry.
not to stop comments about the passing of eddie guerreo, but just wanted to let everyone now that there is a seperate thread in this same forum, i encourage anyone who would like to share thought to still go ahead and do so.
and finally, Cale mentioned this earlier in this thread, but the hitman dvd has been released as of this wk and i picked it up asap. its a great production that cerintaly gives the hitman the credit hes due. once more ppl grab a copy and chekc it out we can have some more discussion about it.

Now I remember, Torrie Wilson also left WWE recently. That's another problem to add to the list they've got recently. Maybe she didn't like changing to a Heel. To be honest, other than the body, I can't say I really care for her any which way. She's just another terrible female actor. Not to say they're all bad.
I'm so upset I couldn't get the Bret Hart DVD yesterday. I gotta pick that up as soon as possible. Even though he's one of my favorite (if not #1 favorite) wrestlers, there's probably only two or three matches on the DVD that I've seen. And he's got some of the most interesting history of any wrestler.
I think you're right about TNA, BDG. I remember a while back seeing the big-shots of TNA and thinking they seemed like dweebs, but people on the net seem to be big fans. I just find it laughable that Jeff Jarrett is the big champ of the brand. I guess his brother might be the owner of TNA, so that makes sense.

Bingo! You get a cookie.
I doubt I'll get the Bret Hart DVD. I'd be interested to see it, but not enough to go out and buy it. I've had my eye on the Jake the Snake Roberts tribute DVD for a few weeks now, though. I hope I'll be able to pick it up when I get paid next week. He's one of my all-time favorites.

RAW was.. not real great last night. One of the guys who abducted Trish was a finalist on Tough Enough, I guess he did wrestle for a bit, but I didn't catch any of it. Maybe that's why he immediately put on sunglasses after taking off his mask, so people wouldn't recognize him. Then Lawler decides to go help Trish. Yeah, thanks Jerry. Thanks for helping after she was gagged, slapped around and kicked in the head. What the hell happened to her Diva comrades?

Don't tell me Lawler is gonna get in the ring again. He's way too much of a joke for the past, oh, decade or so. Or, is this a storyline that somehow won't involve a match?
I picked up the Jake the Snake Roberts DVD set last night after work. I've watched the feature and about half of the extras, and I'm very satisfied with it. There's a lot of material here. I had all kinds of childhood memories resurfacing as I watched this stuff. I knew about his various addictions, but I didn't know his life story was so sad. I wish they had put some of his Snake Pit segments on the disc extras, though. I used to love that segment of the show. I had totally forgotten Brother Love... and I wish I still didn't remember him. ead: We really need a barfing smiley for things like that...

That Jake the Snake DVD set sounds cool, I'd like to see his history. Seems like he had a crappy career ending at the expense of "Austin 3:16". He was my brother's favorite when we were young (by favorite I mean he always chose Jake gumball despensers, toys, etc., while I liked Boss Man). We didn't actually see much wrestling when we were young, but the merchandise was all over.
I got the Bret Hart DVD today, but forced myself not to watch it until I get this essay done, which I'm still working on...

According to what people say on the DVD, Austin's ascent by defeating Jake was actually Jake's idea. He saw the potential in him early on, apparently. I never cared for Austin, myself. I can't believe Vince actually says on the DVD that Austin is the greatest wrestling entertaintment superstar ever. I think it's pretty clear that title belongs to Hogan, love or hate him.
Jake was always huge with us kids during the '80s. My top 3 throghout my childhood:
1. Junkyard Dog
2. Hogan
3. Jake the Snake.
There were plenty of others I loved, but those guys were TOPS. I remember the Jake-Steamboat rivalry, and honestly not knowing who to root for. I loved both of those guys. When Jake DDT'd Ricky on the floor and knocked him out cold, me and all my friends were shocked. I remember that vividly. There really is some great stuff on this DVD. I had completely forgotten about Jake siccing the cobra on Randy Savage, but man, did that memory come flooding back when I watched the footage on this!
Oh, and be sure to let us know how the Bret Hart DVD is, when you have the chance. I know my sister has been wanting it, but I don't think it's one that either of us will buy.

my brother wants to pick up that Hart DVD. its funny, im the one who got him into wrestling and now im the one who hardly ever watches it. it just seems so re-hashed. nothing original. i cant set there for 2 hours anymore and be entertained. i remember back in the day watching 3 hours of wrestling on Monday nights, WCW was my big one. the first hour was always the luchadore matches, the second hour was the B list matches with story set ups and the final hour was the big guns. my wife always made pizza or some other type of snack the first hour then came in and watched the rest of Nitro with me. it was fun.
speaking of DVD's, my brother was telling me he found a movie on Sting (my favorite wrestler) about his life. i think i may pick that up.

I can't maintain any interest in current wrestling, either, for the same reasons. I watch it occasionally, though. It's not all bad, but it doesn't appeal to me the same way classic WWF did when I was a kid.

I finally got to watching the new Bret Hart DVD a few nights ago. The main story part is about 3 hours long, really interesting stuff. It shows a lot of old footage from his days in Stampede. The footage sometimes goes a little longer than I'd prefer before getting back to Bret talking, but no biggie. They also highlight some injuries he got during matches, like when he dislocated his finger during his first WWE Championship win against Ric Flair, then popped it back in during the match (Curt Hennig gives a squeamish look at ringside). Of course they touch on his Steve Austin feud, Survivor Series '97, Owen's passing and his WCW days. I really enjoyed the whole thing. It's all very gradual, but hardly a dull moment.
There's also extra interview pieces of Bret talking about various things like Owen crank calling Stu, wrestlers who've passed away (Bret gets real emotional there), the sunglasses, the Sharpshooter, etc. Apparently it was originally 7 hours of interviewing that was condensed down to 3. All pretty rellevant, entertaining stuff on the DVDs though.
The DVD set also includes 18 matches all hand-picked by the Hitman. So far I've only watched two; a 1985 tag match that was so-so, and his awsome Wrestlemania X match where he lost against Owen. If Jack Roberts' and Ultimate Warrior's DVD sets are close to being this good, I have a feeling I'll pick them up as well.

That sounds like the same format the Jake Robert's DVD had. The main feature on it is a little over 2 hours, then a bunch of matches and stuff. That sounds pretty good, I may pick it up even though I'm not a huge Bret Hart fan.
I started watching my "Greatest Wrestling Stars of the '80s" 3 disc set yesterday. It's a Christmas gift, but my mom gave it to me early. I watched the main docdumentary on the first disc, which included features on the Junkyard Dog, Sgt. Slaughter, Bobby Heenan, Roddy Piper, and Greg Valentine. There's about 15 minutes devoted to each wrestler. The Junkyard Dog has been my all-time favorite wrestler since I could talk, so it's great to see anything with him on it. I haven't watched any of the matches yet, but I did watch JYD's performance of "Gram Them Cakes." Classic stuff! It looks like it'll be a good set, with the feature on each wrestler, then a collection of matches and other stuff on each disc. Sgt. Slaughter had a few really interesting anecdotes, including when he met President Reagan, who saluted him.

glad to hear u finally got to chek out the bret hart dvd Cale. i told ya it was great! the ultimate warrior isnt quite like this or jake's dvd. it is a bit more negative, altho still more or less truthful. the bonus matches are only a handful, and the feature is really about an hour long. it couldve been a big deal, but wwe and warrior had a falling out which lead to them basically doing a rush job of a project on which they mostly bash the guy.
ive been tempted to get the jake the snake dvd, but theres a few other wrestling dvds im lookin to get before that, such as those wrestlemania box sets. ive already gotten 11-15, and im hoping to get 1-5 as well. i think i just might get 6-10 as well, cuz i dont know how much longer my old videos will last lol. the stars of the 80s thing was something that caught my eye, but i doubt ill actually get it.

I haven't actually seen any of those smaller Wrestlemania sets anywhere. How much are they selling for? I'd like to pick up a couple of them.

Now that I found out when they air TNA on Spike, I've been catching it on Monday nights. I'm kind of impressed as far as the matches are concerned, it does seem a little more intense that WWE, especially the lighter guys (X Division they call it?). Wonder if that means there's a greater injury rate at TNA.
The whole production is obviously way lower budget than that of WWE, they ain't a billion dollar corporation. A lot of the entrance themes are kinda bland and generic sounding I noticed, you'd think they could get some better music. Some of the wrestlers don't look fantastic either, like they outta hit the tanning bed or something, but the in-ring innovation makes up for it a bit I suppose. Looks like they're building up some names, and from what they're saying, Sting is going to make an in-ring return. That should be pretty cool.

Yeah, I finally watched a couple of TNAs myself. The in-ring action gets pretty good sometimes, but some of those guys are real losers. They brought out this guy who looks like my 7 year-old nephew to fight this huge Samoan guy a couple of weeks ago; that was laughable. Of course, on RAW, we're supposed to believe a geriatric Ric Flair can compete with Kurt Angle, so I guess WWF has their share of BS matchups, too. I love seeing these older guys still in action, but I really think they oughta be matched up with guys in their own age group.
