The card is a little different, and actually more plain.. this is supose to be in Series 2, which won't be released until later this summer.. I'm wondering why this is showing up..

I just found all five of the next wave, including Punch Packing Joker, at my local Wal-Mart in a new secondary display. I bought one of each of course.

Body Canon BATMAN, Grapnel Launcher BATMAN, Punch Packing The Joker, Saw-Shot BATMAN, Sky Glider BATMAN and Sonic Spy BATMAN are the second series of The Dark Knight Basic figures out at Wal-Marts now.

Yeah, I guess I missed that there was a Body Cannon Batman. So I went went back tonight to look for it in the new display. An employee saw me going through the TDK display and asked if I needed help finding anything. As we started to converse, he mentioned that the Movie Masters were recalled and that the pegs for those were empty. I had actually noticed that they had been stripped bare for a while now but assumed that they were selling faster than they could be restocked. He said that he had heard varied speculation about why they were recalled but didn't know for sure. He had heard that 1) it had something to do with the packaging, 2) that the Joker was too scary-looking for kids and 3) that someone cracked "It's Mattell, it must be lead." So has anyone else heard this or noticed that the Movie Masters aren't being replaced on the pegs?

I am trying to find out more info on this recall. What I do know is that Mattel recalled it. From what I understand it was not from lead paint. Also effected was Speed Racer, Kang Fun Panda and maybe DCUC...

Wow. Sorry to be the one to break the bad news. I still had one more Gotham City Thug Evidence Mask to find too. All I can say is, it sucks to be Mattell these days.

WOW!

That sucks. Glad I already had the Batman and Joker figures I wanted. The thugs never thrilled me much, so I'm not too upset I missed them.
However, the Joker was well done.
I guess it will be a "collectors item" after all . . .

I wonder what the reason for the recall was.
(Wild guess and speculation: something to do with the plastic evidence bag? Something else?)

Well, whatever reason they had for the recall aparently it effected other series, so I guess it's not something like the evidence bag or Joker's handsome mug. And whatever reason it is they don't want bad press over it, I can't find any info online. And the Mattel recall site mentions nothing of it.

So yeah, I'be been busy and I haven't gotten around to getting those figures :/

And to add to the confusion, or my confusion, at least, Mattel said the rest of the 2008 lineup is not affected, and will still be released, including Movie Masters Series 2. Strange....

I read somewhere that it may have to do with new regulations regarding testing.

Whatever the case, I doubt the figures will be permenantly recalled. It doesn't look like anything is wrong with the figures, or else they would have had to release a warning to prevent harm to those who already perchased the figures.

Just talked to somebody about it, and from what they've been told it seems that various stores' testing standards have become even more strict than U.S. National policies. So rather than let Toys R Us or Wal-mart catch something they missed, Mattel has decided to recall the toys and test them themselves to avoid any bad publicity.

That's what I heard, but at this point i's all speculation until an official statement that is a lot less vague.

”Mattel is withdrawing certain limited products from retailer shelves
worldwide. While these products meet with applicable local standards,
the products do not meet Mattel internal specifications. Because these
toys are safe, it is not necessary for us to "recall" them from the
market. To confirm, no U.S. standards have been violated and no recall under federal law is warranted.”

So it had nothing to do with Lead Paint, this time. The last thing Mattel needed was another recall, although it sure looks like a recall to some of us. It is very interesting that Mattel did not like them, thats really odd. The Dark Knight Movie Masters figures are among the best figures anybody has ever produced, yet they don’t meet Mattel’s own standards.

All this will do is drive the secondary price up more as these are now even more collectible than before. I wonder if any of it has to do with The Joker being considered too violent for kids. After all, the Basic figure assortment has a cartoon style The Joker, not Heath Ledger style. I wonder what changes will be made? In my opinion Mattel should have left these alone. If they meet U.S. Safety Standards then that should be good enough.

I walked into my favorite Comic Book Store not expecting much and low and behold the DC Direct 1:6 Scale Deluxe Collector Figures of Batman and The Joker from The Dark Knight were there, early no less. I expected these in July, which means August regarding DC Direct. These are awesome. Lots of detail, multiple swappable hands, lots of accessories and at $89.00 they are $10 more than the rest of the 13” 1:6 Scale figures from DC Direct.

I picked up the Wave 2 Basic Figures at Wal-Mart, but beyond that I have not seen anything new lately.

If it was juts Movie Masters, then MAYBE it could be Joker.. but I doubt it. Since the recall involves other toy lines as well.

I want to know why they didn't offer a statment to begind with? I mean, the media had to go to them days after the figures were pulled.

If had been the scariness of Joker then the Movie Masters would be the only line to be recalled-- or even just the Joker figure-- but seeing as they're recalling Kung-fu Panda, I seriously doubt it's the Joker.

Also, I've seen

That Tyco R/C Batboat looks cool. I started to get one a couple years ago when it was first introduced. I might pick one up this time.
