Following the huge success of "Lego Star Wars" and its sequel, Warner Bros. has signed a licensing deal with Lego to produce a "Lego Batman" game.
In a significant, and likely costly, pact, Warner also nabbed TT Games, developer of the two "Lego Star Wars" games, to make "Lego Batman."
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will fully finance and publish the game itself, as well as handle all distribution in North America.
"Lego Star Wars" titles, both of which sold several million units in the U.S. alone, were family-friendly games featuring characters and settings from the "Star Wars" universe made out of the famous toy bricks.
"Lego Batman" will follow a similar template, and Warner will release it in 2008 on multiple consoles.

This is great news. The Lego Star Wars games are my favorite games. Hopefully since Warner has bought TT they won't try to mess with the formula of the game. The set up is really great as is, and I am anxious to see how they handle Batman.

Sounds good, I've really been enjoying LSW. Hopefully they can tweak the Batman minifig so he doesn't have that huge Mardi Gras head, though...

I actually opened a thread on this game late last year.
http://www.batmanytb.com/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=20&thread_id=1878
It's good to see official confirmation on the game. I briefly contemplated getting the Star Wars games, but I'm not enough of a fan to get those... But Batman; I'd consider buying a "Batman Meets the Care-Bears" game if they made it.

Awesome to hear that it's definitely going to happen! Like I said in the other thread, I've been saying they should do thisd since the first LSW game was released. Maybe TT will work on other DC-based games now, they've proven that they can deliver the goods whether or no they're working with a building-block license.
Razhwurz, you should still give the LSW games a shot. I'm not a big SW fan ewither, but they're just good, fun, easy to master games that provide many hours of fun. the drop-in/drop-out co-op is fun, too. They're super cheap now, so it woudln't cost much to try one of 'em out. The SW license is just icing on the cake for those fans, on what are great games all on their own.

This is great. I rented Star Wars: The Phantom Menace a long while back and it was very enjoyable. The graphics are great, like when droids break apart and because, well, they're just 3D LEGOs so it can't be too hard to look realistic. The playability is pretty easy and the short scenes are funny and cute. I'm anxious to see how the Batman world is handled as a LEGO video game and whether or not it'll have that same light hearted nature.

This is pretty cool news I guess, I mean, I'll probably give it a shot just because it's a Batman video game. I'm not too big of a fan of the LSW games though, and I imagine it'll be the same as those but just Batman...so I guess I'll wait and see how this turns out. |

I heard about this awhile back, it sounds really cool!
Is it gonna be in the PS2 format?
I loved the Batman Lego line but while that stuff was out I was too broke to buy the stuff, it's way expensive....arrrggghhh!

New dirt on the game from the Jan 08 issue of Electronic Gaming Magazine:
-Gameplay remains similar to Lego Star Wars
- The graphics are updated quite a bit this time around.
-The plot, as previously stated, is about an Arkham breakout. And will apparantly have four Chapters in the story.
- Batman & Robin will have alternate "Costumes" (which look more like augmentations of their classic duds than seperate costumes) which allow them to use differant gadgets (I.E. A Demolitions suit that lets Batman use explosives.)
Wayne Manor will be the central hub where you hang out between levels and purchase unlockables.
- Villains include Catwoman, Killer Croc, Scarecrow, the Penguin, the Joker, and Harley Quinn (her Lego debut, I believe)
- Like the LSW games, collecting will be a major factor.
- The developers seemed to hint at other DC heroes appearing in the game.
- Finally (and most the exciting part) Batman's classic villains will be unlockable for play, but unlike other games where you play through the game just with a new character, they will have their own story appart from Batman & Robin's. With Arkham as a central hub instead of Wayne Manor.
It's looking like a fun game.

wow, it sounds amazing. like an upgraded version of the "adventures of batman and robin" for sega genesis.
i wonder what suits they'll have. i really hope one of robin's is the oyl costume...but there were no legos of it.

Well, l;ike I said the alternate costumes they showed are really just augmentations of there usual costumes (Robin has a magnet one with a back pack and magnet shoes). But there defaults are the regular green/red Tim Drakeish one from the Lego kits and the modern wide bat with black and grey for Batman. But I'm hoping they put some unlockable costumes in there, like a OYL robin and 89 Batman.
From what I can gather, they switch "suits" on the fly, like characters in LSW... Probably as a compenstation to the fact that there are more villains than heroes.

Actually, I reported on the game in another thread this time last year, so we've known about it for quite some time... We've just started discussing it further because we're now getting details.
And yeah, I forgot to post the trailer when it came out, so here y'all go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZKrWlQs8LE
Interestingly, they said it would come out fall 2008, but it's looking to take a little longer than that.

Dude that wasn't a fight lol, you just seemed to think this was a new thread and I was saying it isn't... Man you should see some of my threads in my wilder years, fighting over whether or not the word "Production values" mean the whole show ... THOSE, were fights... lol

& when the world thought he was fighting he was actually sitting at his PC as calm as a butterfly on spring day!! I think it was actually Matt Bat Web who posted on the introduce yourself thread the other day I noticed that statement again. It made me laugh the first time I read it and it did again the other day! .
Re Batman Lego - I'm a total virgin when it comes to any kind of games - I simply dont get them and I really wouldnt know an x-box from an Atari (and in total honesty that was probably the last games machine I played!). Purely out of a love of Star Wars and Batman, I'd be tempted to have a look these. There's a big Star Wars fan at work, and he's said a couple of times I'd really like the game - but If I was to get the machine to play them on, then the games - it'd cost £££££££s. I think I'd rather spend that on comics and figures. |

Well, I wouldn't buy a console if you're only going to get a handful of games, they do cost some serious dough...
I'm gonna get an x-box 360 soon, so I can get Soul Calibur 4, Street Fighter 4, maybe Street Fighter 2 HD, Mercinaries 2, and hopefully TDK The Game if it's good (it's rumoured Pandemic's working on it, and they tend to do really good stuff)
Anyway, I do believe this is coming on current gen consoles too, so I mgiht get it for PS2...
