I hate all Anime and Jap. drawings. But the animated The Batman was based half on Anime drawings. The Anime Batman really looks cool though.BYTBConfused
I dont like when they draw fat *** eyes, it is kinda rasist. You know what I mean. BYTBBigeek

dude, anime has a wide variety of styles. that's like saying all american comic books look the same. it's just that since cartoons in america are predominantly for kids, none of the good adult themed animes are shown.

when people think anime, they think of pokemon, digimon, yu gi oh, etc. but there's a lot more than those. that's like limiting american cartoons to spongebob and fairly odd parents.

I'm going to guess you're basing your opinion only what you've seen on Cartoon Network. There are several animes which have the most intricate and detailed animation ever. Some examples are Ghost in The Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Guyver, the Gundam series, etc. You've only seen one very small portion of anime. There are hundreds of shows which have yet to hit the US.

How are wide eyes racist in anime?

Haha, I was gonna make a list but kplangilinan beat me to it lol

Any who, yeah, wide eyes aren't racist. It's a method of creating more empathic images as aposed to realistic. And dude, there as a ton of anime that have been played here in america that have realistic eyes, they are just usually played late at night.

and none of the batman cartoons have "realistic" eyes. in fact, proportions are usually better in animes than in DC comcis cartoons.

that still doesn't mean i like anime though. i'm not a fan of it, but it's just ignorant to say it looks bad.

Most of the ones named are ON Cartoon Network, but on "Adult Swim" (late at night) and are VERY good, though are also rather violent.
They are NOT for kids.
They are NOT ANYTHING like "
I recommend "Cowboy Bebop" and "Samurai Champloo," just NOT where kids can either see or HEAR them. There are LOTS of cuss words.

I listed them as examples of their styles and how some of them are visually amazing. I didn't like how THEBA blatantly said "I hate all anime." So I gave him a few that I thought were prime samples of excellent animation from Japan.

I like Cowboy Bebop. Very very clever.

I've seen about 3 or 4 discs of the boxset (I had them on my rental list from Amazon) and if I ever see a set that isn't full price I'll pick it up. The net RRP is quite high though, and the high street one is ridiculous, so I'm still waiting.

From the subtle little things, right the way thru to full-on obvious examples, it's references and influences were really well done. Also, for Cowboy Bebop and it's brilliant take on Americana, see Steamboy for the impressive British Victorian equivalent. The respective creators and writers are either big fans of the respective subjects, or they REALLY did their homework.

I'm not expert on Japanese stuff by any stretch of the imagination (BTAS basically got me curious about every kind of animation), but what I've seen of it I really like.

Funny enough I mentioed yesterday I've never ever seen a TT cartoon - isn't that supposed to be DC's shout out to the east?

And on a similar subject to the root of the thread - Child of Dreams is great story.

I think Teen Titans tried to emulate humor from anime which I don't think worked as well because its something the Japanese are more familiar with. The sweat bead, the eyes X out are all seen in anime but my feeling is it got lost in the translation when trying to incorporate it in America's anime.

I don't know if they're doing this in UK, but I know here in the U.S. they're releasing a special boxed set for under $50, which is sad for anyone like me who just shelled out $200 to collect the indiviual DVDs. lol

As for Titans, I didn't feel it was a shout out, it seemed more like a spoof of Anime made to cash in on it's success.

yeah, spoof is a better word for it. i dont know...to me, teen titans doesnt even remotely remind me of anime except the exaggerations. the character designs just look american to me. the only american show that passes off as anime to me is Avatar: the last air bender.

and...that's about it. TT, TB, and all those "anime influenced" shows aren't like animes, they're better. lol. to me anyway.

Is TB deemed anime influenced? If so, it's not something I've ever noticed (beyond fact they're both actually animated)!

Although I've not seen TT I can see the comparisons (not saying they're good comparisons, but comparisions nonetheless), but I've not once seen TB and thought anime..

I've never seen Avatar either. I'll see about putting some on my rental list.

I've just checked Amazon and they're now down to £30 per box - thats more the sort of figure I was looking at before I forked out - so I might now do it.....

TB's anime influences: big eyes(batman in seasons 1-3, batgirl, robin), people can jump really high, everyone knows martial arts, joker has spiky hair, flashy background when running/flying in for a punch/kick.

There were times when it looked like the fight scenes were influenced by HK movies. Rather than the brawl type of fighting in the Timm-verse, The Batman shows a lot more of block and counters with enemies attacking from different sides.

I would like to, because we're getting a real Batman anime with Gotham Knight, to recommend Batman: Child of Dreams. It's an actual Batman manga written and drawn by Kia Asamiya (Dark Angel, Silent Mobius). Its very good, and I'm a reviewer, so you can trust me.

Here is the link to DC's website on it:
